I love wearing menswear inspired looks and I especially love wearing them at work. I currently work at a frame shop and I usually wear blouses and other smooth things that sawdust won’t stick to because I cut wood moulding all day. I couldn’t help wearing these Sam & Libby oxfords though no matter times I had to knock out the sawdust that kept getting in the cut outs. After I got off work I got to catch up with my friend Erykah who was snapping pictures like usual (she’s a rad photographer) and we explored my parent’s backyard. It was so nice to unwind and chat after a super long day.

Culinary endeavors – Broiled sweet and crunchy grapefruit English muffin

20140111-091021.jpg

In the area I live in snowpocalypse has pretty much forced me to stay home most days and during that time I’ve been doing a lot of research about eating cleaner. Every once in awhile I come up with something myself.

It’s simple but so tasty I had to share.

Ingredients – Honey, Grapefruit, English muffin, Special K cereal, and cinnamon.

First chop up a grapefruit to top your english muffin with.

Mix an eighth of a cup of special K (I used the protein one)  with one tablespoon of honey and a dash of cinnamon.

Then put the grapefruit and the sweet and crunchy mixture on top and broil until slightly browned.

Voila! Something sweet you don’t have to feel terrible about.

Doodles.

I’ve been doodling like crazy lately. I have winter break right now so it’s been fun to do whatever kind of art I want instead of the boring still life’s my teachers assign me. So of course after looking at some of Don Flowers glamour girls I’ve decided to draw sassy retro ladies

I love local! – Bluebird apparel

In delmar there’s loads of awesome stores. I recently started selling my jewelry from my made up dreams line at Bluebird Apparel and I’m so excited to be part of such a cool trendy store. It’s run by local fashion designer Anna Friss. I dropped off some new jewelry yesterday and I have such a hard time not spending all the money I earn there.DSC_0042

Skulls, cats, buddhas, fringe, and the awesome vintage tin pieces make up some of the earrings I just put in the store would make perfect last minute stocking stuffers, just so you know.
DSC_0043I was totally freaking out over the leggings, you can never have too many.

My friend ben met up with me and found the most perfect shirt with amazing leather sleeves!

So if you want something unique, edgy, and something made by talented people head to Bluebird Apparel ASAP!

vinyl inspiration – Sounds of Silence

Simon & Garfunkel are a record collection staple. This album in particular was from early on in my record collecting days. Sounds of Silence is an amazing album.

It’s so hard to pick just one but my personal favorite song is “We’ve Got a Groovy Thing Goin'” and I found this awesome video with same fab dancers. Looks like such a blast!

ALSO

I bought some new friends, two little boy parakeets that I also  happened to name Simon and Garfunkel. They sing a bunch so I thought it was fitting. So prepare for lots of parakeet pictures in the near future! I’ve been posting a ton on my instagram. I’ve even made some little videos on there too!

Yeah, they’re pretty darn cute. Geeze.

goals – #5. Sell something in a boutique

I did a blog post forever ago about 23 things I wanted to do before I was 23. I had a list of different goals for myself throughout the year. Some seemed really far away and some easily attainable. One of the things I’m most proud of myself for doing is getting my jewelry in a boutique. I sell my jewelry at my vintage addiction in Belleville, IL  and at the edwardsville arts center in Edwardsville, IL. Some of these pictures are of my jewelry at a trunk show that my vintage addiction held for me during their 1 year anniversary party. Her shop is so dreamy and such a good fit for my made up dreams line. ImageImageImageImageImageImage

Sometimes I feel weird about “tooting my own horn” but I realize I should because I’ve worked so hard to get where I want to be and I’m still continuing to do so to get beyond that. I’m really proud of myself for reaching things that I thought were beyond me and I’m excited to see where I go from here.

why I love… cat-sitting

So I’m currently cat-sitting for one of my friends. I’ve never been much of a cat person but I think these two cuties have converted me. I’m definitely going to start gathering supplies as I have the extra dough and then get me one of these guys because… they’re sooooooooooo cute. DSC_0177 DSC_0182 DSC_0184 DSC_0174 DSC_0172 DSC_0168 DSC_0162I even started a pinterest board called “supplies to be a cat lady“. Check it out and see if there’s any cool cat supplies you think are awesome. I’m so in love with the Martha Stewart cat toys!

Any cat tips would totally be welcomed!
